Miomantis is a small and beautifull mantis. In case of danger, it jumps and runs fast away. The males are good flyer. They are optimal adjustet to dray grass and wood wool, where they can hide themselves perfectly.

Miomantis inhabits velds on bushes and grass.

This genus should not kept in groups. They are very agressive. With enough food, larvae up to L4/ L5 can kept together, afterwards they should be seperated. Particularry adult females are very agressive.

At present, at least 70 species are described, e.g. Miomantis abyssinica (GIGLIO-TOS, 1911), M. alata (GIGLIO-TOS, 1917), M.diademata (WERNER, 1916), M. monacha (FABRICIUS, 1787), M. paykullii (STÅL, 1871) and M.wittei (BEIER, 1954).

Typical look of the nymphs:

• L2: brown/ black striped, like bigger nymphs, glossy
  
• L3 and above: single-coloured, glassy legs, like bigger nymphs

Miomantis are easy to keep and to breed. Freshly hatched nymphs are very small, so they need least food. Besides this genus is recommended for beginners.
